The benefits Of Organic Foods

Organic foods are a worthwhile investment for your future health. But with the rising cost of food which ones are worth the extra cost?

What Organic Foods Do you buy?

With rising food cost I have read many blogs with people saying that they just cant afford to eat organic foods. They are more expensive, but some organic foods are simply worth the extra cost.

If you have never bought organic foods you have no clue what you are missing. It taste better, you feel better, and have more energy.

Plus protecting your long-term health, Priceless.

Nutrients in organic produce are about 25 % higher than non-organic. People who eat organic have less body fat and sleep better, plus have a stronger immune system.

Fruits and Vegetables:

Most people know today that fruits and vegetables should be a major part in your diet. But unfortunately non-organic can be the most contaminated with pesticide residues.

The Environmental Working Group analyzed the results of 51,000 tests for residues on produce. Based on there findings they created a dirty dozen list of the most contaminated fruits and vegetables.

The worst ones were apples, peaches, bell peppers, celery, strawberries, nectarines, cherries, pears, grapes, spinach, lettuce, and potatoes.

Basically anything non-organic you eat with the skin on it you should avoid if possible.

To save money buy only the organic foods that are in season, they should be half the cost.

Buy organic foods that are not prepackaged this will also save you money.

Meat and Poultry:

Animals raised 100% organic cant be given antibiotics or growth hormones.

Countries in Europe banned hormone-treated American meats back in 1989.

Conventionally raised meats, dairy, poultry are full of cancer causing hormones and immune suppressing antibiotics.

Animals that are grass fed do not eat feed made from grains and generally have higher levels of essential fatty acids and lean protein.

If you are buying meat it is only truly organic if it says 100 % organic or U.S.D.A. organic. Anything else is just misleading advertising.

The simple way to save money buying organic meats is to just reduce your portion size, you still gain the benefit and cut the cost. The recommended portion size is 3 ounces, just fill in the rest of your plate with whole grains and vegetables.

Milk Yogurt Cheese:

Organic milk contains 75% more beta-carotene, has 50% more vitamin E.

It provides at least 2 times more antioxidants lutein and zeazanthin, and about 70% more omega- 3 fatty acids.

Organic milk also contains more (CLA) conjugated linoleic acid; this good fat has been linked to stronger immunity, less belly fat, and a lower risk of type 2 diabetes.

Other Money Saving Tips:

Other ways to save buying organic is to buy generic brands; most major supermarkets carry their own version of organic foods.

Buy in bulk to save even more. Join a Sams, Costco, or BJ’s

If you even been in an organic store they offer just about everything that you will find in other stores in organic form. This is mostly all junk foods and is something you should avoid anyway, so don’t waste your money buying these items.

hi Kiefer, thanks for dropping by at my blog, nice to know your blog & very informative! Thanks for sharing it:) Yes, I totally agree with you that organic foods are the best for our health & longevity in the long term, although they cost more expensive than the common foods we usually have for daily intake.

About organic foods, perhaps you can explained more details about their characteristics? Especially if we're not living in western countries, how can we know whether those are truly & original organic food, or not?

In the United States it is only truly organic if the labels say U.S.D.A. organic, or 100% organic.

If it is labeled U.S.D.A. organic its only 95% organic.

If it says made with organic ingredients it is only 85% organic.

If it says organic it is only 30% organic.

The word natural means no preservatives, but can contain other harmful toxins.

Last resort read the labels, if the product contains anything that says dyes with a color, artificial flavors or sweeteners, or long chemical names you should avoid these products.

Eating organic has been so hard in my little town, untill we just recently got an Earth Fare grocery store, and I'm giddy about it. The difference is remarkable.
